But it wasn’t until Angela called 911 to report that she had been sexually assaulted and that Michelle was responsible for setting it up, that Michelle Hadley was arrested and sent to jail. The only problem was Michelle wasn’t behind the emails, or the alleged plot to have Angela sexually assaulted. She’d been set up by Ian and Angela. The autopsy was inconclusive, but did reveal David had consumed toxic mushrooms, just not the lethal kind. Detectives pieced together a case against David’s widow, Katrina Fouts, accusing her of devising an elaborate plot to kill her husband with the help of her friend, retired police officer Terry Hopkins. The two were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. While awaiting trial, Terry told investigators he’d strangled David. He died a few months later. Tex said the gun went off accidentally, but investigators disagreed. They believed Tex McIver intentionally pulled the trigger to kill his wife and inherit her money. Tex went to trial in 2018, where he was convicted of felony murder and sentenced to life in prison. Then, in 2022, the Georgia Supreme Court overturned the verdict.
